Myofascial Release Techniques
( Also known as "MFR"...a form of Physical Therapy )
What is "Fascia"?
Fascia surrounds every muscle, bone, nerve, blood vessel and organ all the way down to the cellular level. Your healthy fascial system provides support, stability, and cushening. It is also a system of locomotion and dynamic flexibility forming muscle.
When the fascia looses its pliability and becomes restricted, it is a significant source of tension to the rest of the body. Over time this can lead to pain and loss of functional capacity. Restoration of the length and health to the myofascial system takes pressure off of pain sensitive structures as well as restoring balanced alignment and mobility to the joints.
How does "M.F.R." help?
This is a hands-on soft tissue technique that facilitates a stretch into the restricted fascia, the tough connective tissue which spreads throughout the body in a three-dimensional web from head to toe. A sustained pressure is applied into the restricted tissue barrier; after 90-120 seconds the tissue will release and lengthen.
Your therapist will then follow the release into a new tissue barrier and hold again. After a few releases the tissue will become softer and more pliable.
Note: This treatment would preceed any massage therapy...on dry skin before the application of oil or lotion...to enhance the effectiveness of any other massage modalities.
